Reisel

Sustainable Bioethanol & Advanced Biofuel Blend

Reisel is ReenBio’s advanced bioethanol and biofuel blend, engineered for high-performance transportation and industrial energy applications. Produced through our dual pathway biosynthesis technology from agricultural lignocellulosic residues, Reisel delivers consistent fuel quality with a significantly lower carbon footprint than conventional ethanol or petrol blends.

Dual Pathway Biosynthesis Technology

Unlike conventional first-generation bioethanol produced solely from sugar fermentation, Reisel is produced through ReenBio’s advanced dual pathway biosynthesis platform that combines:

  • Cellulosic Ethanol Pathway: Enzymatic saccharification and fermentation of cellulose and hemicellulose fractions from agricultural residues into ethanol, achieving conversion efficiencies of >90% of theoretical yield.
  • Isoprenoid Pathway Integration: Co-fermentation using engineered yeast strains that simultaneously produce higher alcohols and advanced fuel molecules (isobutanol, farnesene) via the MEP and MVA pathways, improving fuel quality and energy density beyond standard ethanol.

This dual pathway approach produces a superior blend of fermentation products that, when combined, delivers better fuel economy and combustion performance than conventional E10 or E85 blends.

Feedstocks

Reisel is produced from lignocellulosic agricultural residues including:

  • Sugarcane bagasse and trash
  • Corn stover and cobs
  • Rice straw
  • Cassava residues
  • Sorghum bagasse
  • Municipal agricultural solid waste (MASW)

Pre-treatment involves proprietary mild acid hydrolysis and enzymatic saccharification optimised to maximise fermentable sugar yields while preserving lignin for potential co-product valorisation.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Second-Generation Feedstock: Does not compete with food crops; produced entirely from waste agricultural biomass
  • High Octane Rating: RON >105, enabling higher compression ratios and improved engine efficiency
  • GHG Reduction: Up to 75% reduction in lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions vs. petrol
  • Flex-Fuel Compatible: Suitable for use in flex-fuel vehicles (FFV) and standard petrol engines in blends up to E25
  • Improved Combustion: Higher oxygen content promotes cleaner combustion and reduced particulate emissions
  • Water Tolerance: Enhanced formulation with reduced phase separation risk compared to conventional ethanol blends
